DESIGN&BUILD WORKSHOP
Where - Via San Martino / Trento / Italy
When - September 2019
The San Martino district is something peculiar compared to the rest of the city of Trento. Despite its proximity to the historic center, it is perceived as marginal and detached. Its inhabitants wanted to animate and enrich the newly pedestrianized street, at the beginning a bare and still unfurnished space.
Given the life of the neighborhood and the importance of an urban project in this street, the association has developed a participatory planning process. Through a series of activities and meetings, citizens were involved in the process and were able to express their needs. All the data collected ware processed and became the basis for the design phase.
The result of the workshop was a system of three "rafts", an allusion to the past: via San Martino was the port of the city until 1858, when the Adige river flowed along the current via Brennero, until 1858 when its course was diverted.
The structures act as a meeting point for all the community that lives in the neighborhood, from children to the elderly.
They are shelves, furniture, games, stages for book presentations and so on: they are flexible to adapt when actors and activities change.
The Workshop was organized with the economic support of the Autonomous Province of Trento, TAUT, Trento Youth Policies and the Municipality of Trento, and thanks to the sponsorship of Bortolamedi Legnami, Italnolo, Itas Assicurazioni, ReDo and Rothoblaas.
